What are anti-lock brakes and how do I determine if I have them?

Anti-lock brakes are a factory installed device on some cars that allows for better control while braking. The device senses when the wheel is about to start to skid during a stop. It then automatically applies as much braking pressure as possible without locking up the wheels in a skid. This allows the driver to maintain steering control of the vehicle during a hard stop.

In some vehicles anti-lock brakes are a standard feature. On others it is an option. Check with your vehicles owners manual to determine if you have them.

If your vehicle has anti-lock brakes, you may be entitled to a discount on your auto insurance. Discount amount and availability vary by state.
